Tall Ships!
In search of fresh water . . .
At the mouth of Resolution Creek on South Bruny Island lies Two Tree Point, marked on historic charts of Captains Tobias Furneaux and James Cook as a ‘watering place’ where early explorers replenished their supplies of fresh water. When Captain William Bligh’s Bounty called there in 1788, its Principal Artist George Tobin was assigned to depict seven scenes of Adventure Bay. One of these was of what is now known as Two Tree Point. It is believed that the two Eucalyptus globuli that Tobin depicted there are those still standing today – making them at least 250 years of age.
